English Translation
(2:83)
Remember when We took a solemn covenant from the Children of Israel: Worship none but Allah; be kind to your parents, relatives, orphans, and the needy; speak kindly to people; establish prayer; and give Zakat. Yet, except for a few, you turned away and ignored the covenant.
(2:84)
And remember when We took your covenant that you would not shed one another’s blood nor drive one another out of your homes. You acknowledged this covenant while bearing witness to it.
English Tafsir
Surah Al-Baqarah 2:83-84 Tafsir teaches that Allah made several important promises with Bani Israel.
Worship Allah Alone
The first covenant was to worship only Allah. Tawheed is the foundation of Islam, and every Prophet invited people to worship Allah alone.
Be Kind to Parents
The second command was to show kindness and respect to parents. Obedience to parents is essential, but if they ask someone to disobey Allah, such as abandoning prayer or other obligatory acts, their command should not be followed.
Care for Relatives, Orphans and the Needy
Believers are instructed to support relatives, orphans, and those in need. Islam encourages compassion and helping those who struggle to meet their basic necessities.
Speak Kindly
Good speech prevents conflicts and strengthens relationships. A believer should always speak politely and respectfully.
Establish Prayer and Give Zakat
Allah commanded them to establish prayer regularly and give Zakat. However, many among them failed to remain faithful to these commands.
Do Not Kill or Oppress
Allah also prohibited them from killing one another or forcing people out of their homes. Although they accepted this covenant, many later violated it.

اردو ترجمہ
آیت 83
اور جب ہم نے بنی اسرائیل سے پکا عہد لیا کہ اللہ کے سوا کسی کی عبادت نہ کرو، والدین کے ساتھ حسنِ سلوک کرو، رشتہ داروں، یتیموں اور مسکینوں کے ساتھ بھلائی کرو، لوگوں سے اچھی بات کہو، نماز قائم کرو اور زکوٰۃ ادا کرو، پھر تم میں سے تھوڑے لوگوں کے علاوہ سب نے اس عہد سے منہ موڑ لیا۔
آیت 84
اور جب ہم نے تم سے عہد لیا کہ ایک دوسرے کا خون نہ بہانا اور ایک دوسرے کو اپنے گھروں سے نہ نکالنا، تو تم نے اس کا اقرار بھی کیا اور تم خود اس پر گواہ تھے۔
اردو تفسیر
سورۃ البقرہ آیات 83-84 کی تفسیر میں اللہ تعالیٰ بنی اسرائیل سے کیے گئے اہم وعدوں کا ذکر فرماتے ہیں۔
اللہ تعالیٰ نے ان سے عہد لیا کہ وہ صرف اللہ کی عبادت کریں، والدین کے ساتھ حسنِ سلوک کریں، رشتہ داروں، یتیموں اور مسکینوں کی مدد کریں، لوگوں سے نرم گفتگو کریں، نماز قائم کریں اور زکوٰۃ ادا کریں۔
والدین کی اطاعت بہت اہم ہے، لیکن اگر وہ کسی ایسے کام کا حکم دیں جو قرآن و سنت کے خلاف ہو تو اس میں ان کی اطاعت جائز نہیں۔
اللہ تعالیٰ نے انہیں یہ بھی حکم دیا کہ ایک دوسرے کو قتل نہ کریں اور کسی کو اس کے گھر سے نہ نکالیں۔ اگرچہ انہوں نے اس عہد کا اقرار کیا، لیکن بعد میں ان میں سے اکثر لوگوں نے اسے توڑ دیا۔
سورۃ البقرہ آیات 83-84 کی تفسیر ہمیں یہ سبق دیتی ہے کہ اللہ کے ساتھ کیے گئے وعدوں کو پورا کرنا، حقوق العباد کی حفاظت کرنا، والدین کے ساتھ حسنِ سلوک کرنا اور عدل و انصاف پر قائم رہنا ہر مسلمان کی ذمہ داری ہے۔
