Among them are unlettered people who know nothing of the Scripture except wishful thinking, and they merely speculate.
So woe to those who write the Book with their own hands and then say, “This is from Allah,” in order to gain a small worldly benefit. Woe to them for what their hands have written and for what they earn.
They say, “The Fire will never touch us except for a few days.” Say, “Have you taken a covenant from Allah? For Allah never breaks His covenant. Or do you say about Allah what you do not know?”
Indeed, whoever earns evil and is surrounded by his sins will be the companions of the Fire, remaining there forever.
But those who believe and perform righteous deeds will be the companions of Paradise, where they will remain forever.
Tafseer of Surah Al-Baqarah Ayat 78-82
These verses describe another group among the Jews who were uneducated and had little knowledge of the Torah. Instead of following revelation, they relied on assumptions and false hopes.
Allah strongly condemns those religious leaders who deliberately altered the divine scripture, wrote false statements with their own hands, and falsely claimed that these words came from Allah. Their purpose was to gain worldly wealth and status. Such actions are among the gravest sins because they mislead people regarding Allah’s religion.
The Jews also believed that they would enter Hell only for a limited number of days before being admitted to Paradise. Allah rejected this false belief and challenged them to produce any covenant from Him supporting such a claim.
The same principle applies to every nation. No one enters Paradise merely because of lineage, nationality, or wishful thinking. Salvation depends upon true faith and righteous deeds.
Allah concludes these verses by explaining that those whose sins completely surround them because of disbelief and persistent evil will remain in Hell forever. On the other hand, sincere believers who perform righteous deeds will live in Paradise forever.

سورۃ البقرہ آیات 78 تا 82 کی تفسیر میں اللہ تعالیٰ بنی اسرائیل کے ان لوگوں کا ذکر فرماتے ہیں جو علم سے محروم تھے، اللہ کی کتاب میں تحریف کرنے والوں کی مذمت کرتے ہیں، جھوٹی امیدوں کا رد کرتے ہیں اور ایمان والوں اور کافروں کے انجام کو واضح فرماتے ہیں۔
آسان ترجمہ
ان میں کچھ لوگ ایسے ہیں جو کتاب کا علم نہیں رکھتے، صرف بے بنیاد امیدوں پر چلتے ہیں۔
تباہی ہے ان لوگوں کے لیے جو اپنے ہاتھوں سے کتاب لکھتے ہیں، پھر کہتے ہیں کہ یہ اللہ کی طرف سے ہے تاکہ اس کے بدلے تھوڑا سا دنیاوی فائدہ حاصل کریں۔
وہ کہتے تھے کہ جہنم ہمیں صرف چند دن ہی چھوئے گی۔ اللہ تعالیٰ فرماتے ہیں کہ کیا تم نے اللہ سے کوئی وعدہ لے رکھا ہے؟ یا اللہ پر ایسی بات کہتے ہو جس کا تمہیں علم نہیں؟
جو شخص گناہوں میں اس قدر ڈوب جائے کہ اس کے گناہ اسے گھیر لیں، وہ ہمیشہ جہنم میں رہے گا۔
اور جو لوگ ایمان لائے اور نیک اعمال کرتے رہے وہ ہمیشہ ہمیشہ جنت میں رہیں گے۔
تفسیر
پچھلی آیات میں بنی اسرائیل کے علماء کا ذکر تھا، جبکہ ان آیات میں ان لوگوں کا ذکر ہے جو علم نہیں رکھتے تھے اور صرف گمان اور جھوٹی امیدوں پر زندگی گزار رہے تھے۔
اللہ تعالیٰ نے ان علماء کی سخت مذمت فرمائی جنہوں نے اپنی خواہشات کے مطابق تورات میں تبدیلی کی، کچھ عبارتیں خود لکھیں اور انہیں اللہ کی طرف منسوب کر دیا تاکہ دنیاوی مال و دولت حاصل کر سکیں۔ یہ بہت بڑا جرم تھا کیونکہ اس سے لوگوں کو دین کے بارے میں گمراہ کیا گیا۔
یہودی یہ دعویٰ کرتے تھے کہ اگر وہ جہنم میں جائیں گے بھی تو صرف چند دن کے لیے۔ اللہ تعالیٰ نے اس باطل عقیدے کو رد کرتے ہوئے فرمایا کہ کیا اس بارے میں تمہارے پاس اللہ کا کوئی وعدہ ہے؟
اسی طرح ہر انسان اپنے اعمال کا خود ذمہ دار ہے۔ کوئی شخص دوسرے کے گناہوں کا بوجھ نہیں اٹھائے گا۔
اللہ تعالیٰ واضح فرماتے ہیں کہ جو لوگ کفر اور گناہوں میں اس طرح ڈوب جائیں کہ ان کے گناہ انہیں گھیر لیں، وہ ہمیشہ جہنم میں رہیں گے، جبکہ ایمان والے اور نیک اعمال کرنے والے ہمیشہ جنت میں رہیں گے۔
احادیث میں آتا ہے کہ جب اہلِ جنت اور اہلِ جہنم اپنے اپنے ٹھکانوں میں داخل ہو جائیں گے تو موت کو ختم کر دیا جائے گا اور اعلان کیا جائے گا کہ اب نہ موت آئے گی اور نہ کوئی اس حالت سے نکلے گا۔ اہلِ جنت کی خوشی ہمیشہ کی نعمتوں کی وجہ سے مزید بڑھ جائے گی، جبکہ اہلِ جہنم کا غم اس بات سے اور زیادہ ہوگا کہ ان کا عذاب ہمیشہ کے لیے ہے۔
