Translation of Surah Al-Baqarah 2:85

“Then you are those who kill one another and drive a group of your own people out of their homes. You support one another against them in sin and aggression. If they come to you as captives, you ransom them, although their expulsion was forbidden to you. Do you believe in part of the Book and reject the rest? The reward for those who do so is disgrace in this world, and on the Day of Resurrection they will be returned to the severest punishment. Allah is never unaware of what you do.”

Surah Al-Baqarah 2:85 Tafsir explains that Allah condemned the Jews of Madinah because they followed only the commands they liked and ignored the rest. They fought alongside their allies, killed fellow Jews, and expelled them from their homes. Later, when their own people became prisoners, they paid ransom to free them because the Torah commanded it.

Allah questioned them: Why obey one command while rejecting another? True faith means accepting and following all of Allah’s guidance, not choosing according to personal desires.

پھر تم وہی لوگ ہو جو آپس میں ایک دوسرے کو قتل کرتے ہو، اپنی ہی قوم کے ایک گروہ کو ان کے گھروں سے نکال دیتے ہو، ان کے خلاف ظلم اور زیادتی میں ایک دوسرے کی مدد کرتے ہو، پھر جب وہ قیدی بن کر تمہارے پاس آتے ہیں تو ان کا فدیہ دے کر انہیں چھڑا لیتے ہو، حالانکہ انہیں جلا وطن کرنا ہی تم پر حرام تھا۔ کیا تم کتاب کے بعض حصے پر ایمان لاتے ہو اور بعض کا انکار کرتے ہو؟ ایسے لوگوں کا بدلہ دنیا میں رسوائی اور قیامت کے دن سخت عذاب ہے، اور اللہ تمہارے اعمال سے غافل نہیں۔

سورۃ البقرہ آیت 85 کی تفسیر

سورۃ البقرہ آیت 85 کی تفسیر میں اللہ تعالیٰ یہودِ مدینہ کی غلط روش کی نشاندہی فرماتے ہیں۔ مدینہ میں بنو قریظہ اور بنو نضیر دو بڑے یہودی قبائل تھے۔ ایک قبیلہ اوس کا حلیف تھا جبکہ دوسرا خزرج کا۔ جب اوس اور خزرج کے درمیان جنگ ہوتی تو یہودی بھی اپنے اپنے حلیفوں کا ساتھ دیتے، ایک دوسرے کو قتل کرتے اور جلا وطن کر دیتے۔

لیکن جب انہی کا کوئی شخص قیدی بن جاتا تو وہ کتابِ اللہ کے حکم کے مطابق فدیہ دے کر اسے آزاد کرا لیتے۔ اللہ تعالیٰ نے فرمایا کہ تم ایک حکم پر عمل کرتے ہو اور دوسرے حکم کو چھوڑ دیتے ہو۔ یہ اللہ کی اطاعت نہیں بلکہ اپنی خواہشات کی پیروی ہے۔

سورۃ البقرہ آیت 85 سے حاصل ہونے والے اسباق

• دین اسلام پر مکمل عمل کرنا ضروری ہے۔
• اپنی خواہش کے مطابق دین کے احکام منتخب نہیں کیے جا سکتے۔
• ظلم، قتل اور ناانصافی سخت گناہ ہیں۔
• دنیا کو آخرت پر ترجیح دینا نقصان کا سبب ہے۔
• اللہ تعالیٰ ہر عمل کو دیکھ رہا ہے۔
