Surah Baqarah Ayat 67-71
Surah Baqarah Ayat 67-71
Surah Baqarah Ayat 67-71 Translation
The people of Prophet Musa (Moses, peace be upon him) said,
“Pray to your Lord for us to make clear what kind of cow it should be.”
Musa (peace be upon him) replied,
“Indeed, Allah says that it should be neither too old nor too young, but of middle age. So do what you have been commanded.”
They then said,
“Pray to your Lord for us to tell us what color it should be.”
He replied,
“Allah says that it should be a bright yellow cow, pleasing to those who look at it.”
They said,
“Pray to your Lord to explain further what kind of cow it should be, for all cows appear alike to us. If Allah wills, we shall surely be guided.”
Musa (peace be upon him) said,
“Allah says that it should be a cow not trained to plow the land or irrigate the fields. It should be sound and free from every defect, with no spot or blemish.”
They replied,
“Now you have brought the truth.”
So they slaughtered the cow, although they were reluctant to do so.
Surah Baqarah Ayat 67-71 Tafseer
Surah Baqarah Ayat 67-71 describes the famous story of the cow and the attitude of the Children of Israel. Allah commanded them to slaughter a cow, but instead of obeying immediately, they kept asking unnecessary questions.
First, they asked about the age of the cow. Then they asked about its color. Finally, they requested more details about its characteristics. With every question, the command became more specific, making the task more difficult for themselves.
Prophet Musa (peace be upon him) informed them that the cow should not have been used for plowing the land or watering the fields. It had to be healthy, free from defects, and without any spots. Only then did they accept the command and slaughter the cow.
Surah Baqarah Ayat 67-71 teaches Muslims that obedience to Allah should be immediate and sincere. Delaying obedience through unnecessary questioning can make simple matters difficult.
A Hadith also explains that if the Children of Israel had slaughtered any cow at the beginning, it would have been sufficient. However, because they continued asking questions, Allah made the conditions stricter for them.
The message of Surah Baqarah Ayat 67-71 is to obey Allah with sincerity, avoid unnecessary complications, and trust His wisdom. Every believer should reflect upon Surah Baqarah Ayat 67-71 and apply its lessons in daily life.
