English Translation
Translation:
And when We took your covenant and raised Mount Tur above you, saying, “Hold firmly to what We have given you and remember what is in it so that you may become righteous.”
Then even after that, you turned away. Had it not been for the grace and mercy of Allah upon you, you would surely have been among the losers.
Tafseer in English
According to Baqarah Ayat 63-64 Tafseer in Urdu & English, when Bani Israel reached the Valley of Sinai, they requested Prophet Musa (AS) to provide them with a complete code of life. Allah blessed them with the Torah, but many of them considered its commandments difficult and hesitated to obey.
To emphasize the seriousness of their covenant, Allah raised Mount Tur above them and commanded them to hold firmly to the Torah and follow its teachings. They accepted the covenant but later many of them broke their promise.
These verses remind us that Allah’s mercy is far greater than His punishment. Despite repeated disobedience, Allah continued to bless them with His grace and mercy. Without Allah’s mercy, they would have become complete losers.

Is There Compulsion in Religion?
Baqarah Ayat 63-64 Tafseer
Baqarah Ayat 63-64 Tafseer
Some people ask that the Quran says
“There is no compulsion in religion”, so why were Bani Israel forced?
The answer is that Islam does not permit forcing a non-Muslim to accept Islam. However, once a person willingly accepts Allah’s covenant and becomes part of the believing community, he is responsible for following Allah’s commandments. Bani Israel had already accepted this covenant but later broke it. Therefore, Allah held them accountable for violating their own promise.
Conclusion
The Baqarah Ayat 63-64 Tafseer in Urdu & English teaches Muslims the importance of remaining faithful to Allah’s commands and honoring every covenant made with Him. It also reminds us that Allah’s mercy is immense, and sincere repentance always leads to His forgiveness.
