Introduction (English)
Surah Al-Baqarah Ayah 62 Tafseer explains that success in the Hereafter depends upon sincere faith in Allah, belief in the Last Day, and righteous deeds. This verse also mentions the Jews, Christians, and Sabians, clarifying that true salvation belongs only to those who sincerely believe in Allah and follow His guidance. قرآن مجید کا ترجمہ
بے شک جو لوگ ایمان لائے، اور جو یہودی، نصرانی اور صابی ہیں، جو بھی اللہ پر، آخرت کے دن پر ایمان لائے اور نیک اعمال کرے، تو ان کے لیے ان کے رب کے پاس اجر ہے، نہ ان پر کوئی خوف ہوگا اور نہ وہ غمگین ہوں گے۔
English Translation
Indeed, those who believe, and those who are Jews, Christians, or Sabians—whoever truly believes in Allah and the Last Day and performs righteous deeds—shall have their reward with their Lord. They will have no fear, nor will they grieve.
Surah Al-Baqarah Ayah 62 Tafseer (English)
In the previous verse, Allah mentioned the blessings granted to the Children of Israel. In this verse, Allah also refers to other religious groups that existed during the time of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, including the Jews, Christians, and Sabians.
Some of the people of Makkah claimed to follow Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) عليه السلام and considered themselves believers merely because of their lineage. However, true faith is not based on ancestry or claims; it is based on sincere belief and obedience to Allah.
The Jews are called “Yahood” because they turned back to Allah after the incident of worshipping the calf. Some scholars also relate their name to Judah, the son of Prophet Yaqub (Jacob) عليه السلام.
The Christians are called “Nasara” because Prophet Isa (Jesus) عليه السلام was associated with the town of Nazareth (Nasirah). Another explanation is that they were called Nasara because they supported Prophet Isa عليه السلام, and the Arabic word “Nasr” means help or support.
The Sabians were a group who believed in some previous prophets, especially Prophet Dawud (David) عليه السلام, followed the Zabur (Psalms), believed in prayer, fasting, and the Day of Judgment, but they also worshipped stars, which led them into shirk (associating partners with Allah).
This verse teaches that salvation is not achieved merely through belonging to a particular nation or community. Rather, success belongs to those who sincerely believe in Allah, believe in the Last Day, accept all the beliefs required by Islam, and perform righteous deeds.
Allah promises such believers that they will receive their reward, will have no fear on the Day of Judgment, and will not grieve.
سورۃ البقرہ آیت 62 کی تفسیر (اردو)
پچھلی آیات میں اللہ تعالیٰ نے بنی اسرائیل پر کیے گئے انعامات کا ذکر فرمایا، جبکہ اس آیت میں ان مختلف گروہوں کا ذکر کیا گیا ہے جو نبی کریم ﷺ کے زمانے میں موجود تھے، جیسے یہودی، نصرانی اور صابی۔
مشرکین مکہ اپنے آپ کو حضرت ابراہیم علیہ السلام کی طرف منسوب کرتے تھے اور صرف نسب کی بنیاد پر اپنے آپ کو مومن سمجھتے تھے، حالانکہ صرف دعویٰ کافی نہیں بلکہ حقیقی ایمان اور اطاعت ضروری ہے۔
یہودیوں کو “یہود” اس لیے کہا جاتا ہے کہ انہوں نے بچھڑے کی عبادت چھوڑ کر اللہ کی طرف رجوع کیا، جبکہ بعض علماء کے نزدیک ان کا نام حضرت یعقوب علیہ السلام کے بیٹے یہودا سے منسوب ہے۔
نصرانی حضرت عیسیٰ علیہ السلام کی نسبت سے کہلاتے ہیں کیونکہ آپ کا تعلق ناصرہ نامی بستی سے تھا۔ ایک دوسری رائے کے مطابق انہیں نصرانی اس لیے کہا گیا کہ انہوں نے حضرت عیسیٰ علیہ السلام کی مدد کی، اور عربی میں مدد کو “نصرت” کہا جاتا ہے۔
صابی ایک ایسا گروہ تھا جو حضرت داؤد علیہ السلام کو مانتا تھا، زبور پر عمل کرتا تھا، نماز، روزہ اور قیامت پر ایمان رکھتا تھا، لیکن بعد میں ستاروں کی عبادت میں مبتلا ہوگیا اور شرک کا شکار ہوگیا۔
اللہ تعالیٰ اس آیت میں واضح فرماتے ہیں کہ کامیابی صرف اس شخص کے لیے ہے جو خالص دل سے اللہ تعالیٰ پر ایمان لائے، آخرت پر ایمان رکھے، تمام ضروری عقائد کو قبول کرے اور نیک اعمال کرے۔
ایسے لوگوں کے لیے اللہ تعالیٰ کے ہاں عظیم اجر ہے، قیامت کے دن نہ انہیں کوئی خوف ہوگا اور نہ وہ غمگین ہوں گے۔
Lessons from Surah Al-Baqarah Ayah 62
- حقیقی نجات صرف صحیح ایمان اور نیک اعمال سے ملتی ہے۔
- صرف کسی قوم یا خاندان سے تعلق کافی نہیں۔
- اللہ تعالیٰ پر کامل ایمان اور آخرت پر یقین ضروری ہے۔
- ایمان کے ساتھ نیک اعمال بھی لازم ہیں۔
- شرک انسان کو ہدایت سے دور کر دیتا ہے۔
