Surah Baqarah Ayat 132-133 highlight the beautiful advice given by Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) عليه السلام and Prophet Yaqub (Jacob) عليه السلام to their children. Surah Baqarah Ayat 132-133 – Urdu Translation
Surah Baqarah Ayat 132-133 – English Translation
Verse 132
And Abraham instructed his sons with this, and Jacob also instructed his sons, saying, “O my sons! Indeed, Allah has chosen this religion for you, so do not die except while you are Muslims.”
Verse 133
Were you witnesses when death approached Jacob? When he said to his sons, “What will you worship after me?” They replied, “We will worship your God and the God of your forefathers, Abraham, Ishmael, and Isaac—the One God. And we are Muslims, submitting to Him.”
Surah Baqarah Ayat 132-133

Surah Baqarah Ayat 132-133 – English Tafsir

Prophet Ibrahim عليه السلام advised his sons to remain firm upon the religion chosen by Allah and not to die except in a state of Islam. This teaches us that a believer should remain committed to Allah throughout his entire life.
Islam means submitting oneself to Allah, believing in His Oneness, obeying His commands, and following His guidance.
The Advice of Prophet Ibrahim
Prophet Ibrahim عليه السلام was a great messenger of Tawheed. His message was based on worshipping Allah alone and rejecting every form of associating partners with Him.
His advice to his children teaches parents that they should care about the religious and moral development of their children. Providing food, education, and worldly needs is important, but protecting the faith of children is even more important.
The Advice of Prophet Yaqub
Prophet Yaqub عليه السلام also cared deeply about the faith of his children. As death approached him, he asked his sons what they would worship after him.
His sons replied that they would worship the God of their fathers, Ibrahim, Ismail, and Ishaq عليهم السلام—the One God—and that they would submit to Him.
Their response demonstrates the continuity of the message of all the prophets: worship Allah alone and submit to Him.
The Question About Prophet Yaqub
In Surah Baqarah Ayat 132-133, Allah asks whether the people were present when death approached Prophet Yaqub
This is an example of a rhetorical question used for denial, known in Arabic as Istifham Inkari. The purpose is to reject the claim that people knew or witnessed a different final instruction from Prophet Yaqub عليه السلام.
The verses make it clear that Prophet Yaqub عليه السلام was concerned with the worship and faith of his children. His sons affirmed their belief in the One God and their submission to Him.
