Introduction to Halal and Pure Food
Islam teaches Muslims to eat lawful and wholesome food and to avoid anything forbidden by Allah. The Quran provides clear guidance about food, daily life, and the importance of following Allah’s commands rather than the ways of Satan.
The concept of Halal and Pure Food is explained in Surah Al-Baqarah, verses 168–169. These verses remind humanity to enjoy lawful provisions and avoid following Satan, who encourages evil, indecency, and speaking about Allah without knowledge.
Quranic Verses About Halal and Pure Food
Allah Almighty says in the Holy Quran:
Verse 168 — Translation:
“O mankind, eat from whatever is on earth that is lawful and good, and do not follow the footsteps of Satan. Indeed, he is to you a clear enemy.”
Verse 169 — Translation:
“He only commands you to evil and immorality and to say about Allah what you do not know.”
These verses establish important principles of Halal and Pure Food in Islam and warn against following Satan’s misleading instructions.
Tafseer of Halal and Pure Food in Islam
1. Allah Commands Humanity to Eat Lawful and Pure Food
Allah Almighty addresses all humanity and commands people to eat from the provisions of the earth that are lawful and wholesome.
The word Halal refers to what Islamic law permits, while Tayyib refers to what is good, wholesome, and pure. Muslims should therefore choose food that is permissible according to Islam and avoid what Allah has prohibited.
Islam also teaches that earning and consuming lawful provisions are important parts of a believer’s life. A Muslim should pay attention not only to what they eat but also to how their food and wealth are obtained.
2. The Background of the Quranic Command
Classical Quranic commentaries discuss how some people prohibited certain foods for themselves based on their own customs and religious practices without valid authority from Allah. Certain pre-Islamic Arabian practices involved assigning special restrictions to animals, including those known as Bahira and Sa’iba.
The Quran corrects such practices by teaching that matters of lawful and unlawful food must be guided by Allah’s revelation, rather than invented restrictions or superstitions.
The message of these verses applies to all people: follow Allah’s guidance when deciding what is lawful and wholesome.
3. Do Not Follow the Footsteps of Satan
Allah warns humanity not to follow the footsteps of Satan because he is a clear enemy. His misguidance can begin with small actions and gradually lead people toward disobedience.
Satan encourages people to abandon divine guidance, commit sins, engage in indecency, and make false claims about Allah without knowledge.
A believer should therefore remain careful about their choices, follow the Quran and the authentic teachings of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), and avoid practices that contradict Islamic teachings.
4. The Importance of Lawful Food in Spiritual Life
Muslim scholars have emphasized the importance of lawful food, sincere worship, and following the Sunnah. Lawful earnings and consumption are important for a believer’s spiritual discipline and the acceptance of supplications and acts of worship.
Scholars also advise Muslims to avoid doubtful sources of income and unlawful dealings. Common examples include interest-based transactions prohibited by Islamic law, fraud, betrayal of trust, and unjust acquisition of wealth.
A Muslim should seek lawful earnings, fulfil religious obligations, and maintain sincerity in worship.
5. Do Not Speak About Allah Without Knowledge
Verse 169 warns against attributing statements, rules, or beliefs to Allah without sound knowledge.
Muslims should not declare something lawful or unlawful based merely on personal opinions, cultural traditions, or assumptions. Matters of Islamic belief and religious rulings should be understood through the Quran, authentic Sunnah, and reliable scholarship.
This principle encourages humility, careful learning, and responsibility when discussing Islam.

Halal and Pure Food
Halal and Pure Food in Islam
Tafseer of Halal and Pure Food
Halal and Pure Food in Islam
Halal and Pure Food
Halal and Pure Food
Halal and Pure Food in Islam
خلاصہ: Halal and Pure Food کی اہمیت
Halal and Pure Food
