Translation of Surah Baqarah Ayat 166
When those who were followed disown those who followed them, and they see the punishment, and all their connections are cut off.
Translation of Surah Baqarah Ayat 167
Those who followed will say, “If only we had another chance to return to the world, we would disown them just as they have disowned us.” Thus, Allah will show them their deeds as regrets for them, and they will never come out of the Fire.
Surah Baqarah Ayat 166 Tafseer in English
In the preceding verses, Allah Almighty explains His Oneness (Tawheed) and presents signs of His power. These verses describe the condition of those who rejected Tawheed and followed misguided leaders when they face the reality of the Hereafter.
Importance of Surah Baqarah Ayat 166 Tafseer
Surah Baqarah Ayat 166 Tafseer explains how misguided leaders will abandon their followers on the Day of Judgment. This verse reminds us to follow the Quran and Sunnah instead of blindly trusting people.
1. Leaders Will Abandon Their Followers
The first lesson from Surah Baqarah Ayat 166 Tafseer is that worldly influence and leadership cannot save anyone from Allah’s punishment.
On the Day of Judgment, the leaders whom people followed in disbelief and disobedience will disown their followers when they witness the punishment. The people who trusted these leaders will realize that their loyalty cannot benefit them.
This teaches us not to follow anyone blindly. Our beliefs and actions must be based on the guidance of Allah and the teachings of His Messenger (peace be upon him).
2. All Worldly Relationships Will Be Severed
On that Day, the relationships and connections that people relied upon in this world will no longer provide protection. Everyone will be concerned about their own fate.
Family connections, friendships, social influence, and worldly status will not save a person from accountability before Allah. Every individual must answer for their own beliefs and deeds.
3. The Followers Will Regret Their Choices
According to Surah Baqarah Ayat 166 Tafseer, the followers will wish they could return to the world and disown their misguided leaders just as those leaders have abandoned them.
However, this regret will come when the opportunity to choose and act has passed. They will realize that they should have followed the truth instead of trusting those who led them away from Allah’s guidance.
This is a powerful reminder to correct our beliefs and actions while we still have time.
4. The Example of Satan’s Disowning His Followers
A related lesson is found in Surah Ibrahim, Ayat 22. Satan will declare that he had no authority to force people to follow him. He will acknowledge that he merely called them, and they responded to his call.
He will tell them not to blame him for their choices. Allah gave people guidance and the ability to distinguish right from wrong, but they chose to follow false promises.
This demonstrates that people cannot escape responsibility by blaming Satan, their leaders, or their companions for their own deliberate decisions.
5. Evil Deeds Will Become a Source of Regret
Allah will show people the consequences of their deeds, and those deeds will become a source of deep regret for them.
People who associated partners with Allah and rejected His guidance will realize the seriousness of their actions. The worldly benefits they pursued will no longer help them.
The lesson of Surah Baqarah Ayat 166 Tafseer is that we should evaluate our actions according to Allah’s guidance rather than temporary worldly gains or the approval of other people.
6. A Serious Warning About the Fire
The passage ends with a warning about the Fire and the consequences of dying in disbelief. The people described in these verses will not find the escape they desperately seek.
These verses call us to sincere faith, repentance, and obedience to Allah before the Day of Judgment arrives.
Lessons from Surah Baqarah Ayat 166–167
- Follow the guidance of the Quran and Sunnah rather than blindly following influential people.
- Remember that every individual is accountable for their own choices.
- Do not rely solely on worldly relationships, wealth, or status.
- Recognize Satan’s deception and reject false promises.
- Repent sincerely and correct your actions while you have the opportunity.
- Believe in the Oneness of Allah and remain steadfast in faith.
Lessons from Surah Baqarah Ayat 166 Tafseer
The main lesson of Surah Baqarah Ayat 166 Tafseer is that every person is responsible for their own beliefs and actions. We should recognize the truth, avoid misleading guidance, and sincerely obey Allah Almighty.
Conclusion
Surah Baqarah Ayat 166 Tafseer reminds us that misguided leaders will not accept responsibility for their followers on the Day of Judgment. Relationships will be severed, regret will become overwhelming, and people will wish they could return to correct their mistakes.
The message is clear: follow the truth, worship Allah alone, and take responsibility for your beliefs and actions in this life.
May Allah Almighty guide us to the truth, protect us from misguidance, and grant us success in the Hereafter. Ameen.

Surah Baqarah Ayat 166 Tafseer
Surah Baqarah Ayat 166 Tafseer
Surah Baqarah Ayat 167 Tafseer
Surah Baqarah Ayat 166 Tafseer
