Introduction
True Faith and Allah’s Guidance are among the most important themes explained in Surah Al-Baqarah Ayat 137. Allah Almighty teaches that if people believe in the same way as the believers before them believed, they will be rightly guided. If they turn away, they remain in opposition and disagreement.
This verse highlights the importance of following authentic faith and remaining firm upon the guidance revealed by Allah Almighty.
True Faith and Allah’s Guidance in Surah Al-Baqarah Ayat 137
If they believe in what you believe in, then they will certainly be rightly guided. But if they turn away, then they are only in opposition. So Allah will be sufficient for you against them, and He is the All-Hearing, All-Knowing.Following True Faith and Allah’s Guidance helps believers remain firm upon the teachings of Islam.
Tafsir of Surah Al-Baqarah Ayat 137
In this verse, Allah Almighty tells the believers that if these people believe in the same manner in which the believers have believed, they will find the straight path and receive guidance.
The verse teaches us that True Faith and Allah’s Guidance are connected. True faith is not merely a claim; rather, it means accepting the truth revealed by Allah and following the authentic way of the Messenger ﷺ and his Companions.
True Faith and Allah’s Guidance
True Faith and Allah’s Guidance mean accepting Allah’s revelation with sincerity and following the authentic teachings of Islam. A believer does not follow truth only when it agrees with personal desires but remains committed to Allah’s guidance in every aspect of life.
The Faith of the Companions
This verse also demonstrates the importance of the faith of the Companions of the Prophet ﷺ. The expression referring to the believers’ faith indicates that their belief was a model of authentic faith.
The Companions رضي الله عنهم were those who directly learned Islam from the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. Therefore, their understanding, practice, and way of following Islam are extremely important for understanding the religion correctly.
The Prophet ﷺ also warned about divisions among previous communities and within his Ummah. The successful group is understood to be those who remain upon the way of the Prophet ﷺ and his Companions
This is why the term Ahl al-Sunnah wa al-Jama’ah refers to those who follow the Sunnah of the Prophet ﷺ and the way of his Companions. The faith of the Companions provides an important example of True Faith and Allah’s Guidance for Muslims.
Turning Away From the Truth
Allah Almighty further explains that if people turn away from faith, the reason is not a weakness in the truth or a lack of evidence. Rather, their rejection comes from their opposition and unwillingness to accept the guidance of Allah.
Some among the People of the Book had hoped that the final Prophet would come from the Children of Israel. When the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ came from the descendants of Ismail عليه السلام, some rejected him because of their own prejudice and opposition.
The lesson for believers is that truth should be accepted because it comes from Allah, not because it agrees with personal expectations. This teaches us that True Faith and Allah’s Guidance should be preferred over personal desires and expectations.
Allah Is Sufficient for the Believers
Allah Almighty says that He will be sufficient against those who oppose the believers. Allah protected His Messenger ﷺ from many attempts made by his enemies to harm him.
There were several incidents in which enemies attempted to harm the Prophet ﷺ, but Allah protected him from their plans.
These events remind believers that True Faith and Allah’s Guidance require trust in Allah. When a person remains firm upon truth, Allah is sufficient for him.
The Meaning of Allah’s Color
The verse continues with the expression concerning the “color” of Allah. The meaning is understood as the religion and way given by Allah.
The believers are instructed to adopt the divine way of Islam rather than the external religious symbols or customs of other communities.
Islam is described as the best way because it is based upon revelation, faith in Allah, and obedience to Him.
Islam Is the Best Way
Some Christian practices involved symbolic rituals performed for newborn children. In contrast, Allah teaches the believers that His way is superior.
The “color” of Allah represents the spiritual identity and way of Islam. Unlike an external color that can fade or disappear, the guidance of Allah is permanent and leads a person toward righteousness.
Therefore, believers should be proud of their Islamic identity while remaining sincere servants of Allah.Islam gives believers a clear path based on True Faith and Allah’s Guidance.

(True Faith and Allah’s Guidance)
