Introduction to Surah Al-Baqarah 2:87-88 Tafsir
Surah Al-Baqarah 2:87-88 Tafsir explains Allah’s countless blessings upon the Children of Israel. Allah sent Prophet Musa (Moses, AS), followed by many prophets, and later sent Prophet Isa (Jesus, AS) with clear miracles. Despite these signs, many among Bani Israel rejected the truth because of arrogance and stubbornness.

English Translation (Surah Al-Baqarah 2:87-88)
Indeed, We gave Musa (Moses) the Book, and after him We sent many Messengers one after another. We gave Isa (Jesus), the son of Maryam (Mary), clear signs and strengthened him with the Holy Spirit (Jibreel). Whenever a Messenger came to you with something your hearts disliked, you became arrogant. Some Messengers you denied, and others you killed.
They said, “Our hearts are covered.” Rather, Allah has cursed them because of their disbelief, so only a few of them believe.
Surah Al-Baqarah 2:87-88 Tafsir
In Surah Al-Baqarah 2:87-88 Tafsir, Allah answers an important question. Earlier verses mention the disobedience of the Children of Israel, their breaking of promises, rejection of prophets, and ingratitude despite Allah’s favors.
Allah reminds them that He gave the Torah to Prophet Musa (AS) and continued sending prophets after him to guide them. Later, Allah sent Prophet Isa (AS), granting him clear miracles and supporting him through Angel Jibreel (AS), known as the Holy Spirit.
The name Isa means blessed and noble, while Maryam is honored in the Quran more than any other woman. Her name appears around thirty times, and Prophet Isa (AS) is always referred to as the son of Maryam, proving his miraculous birth without a father.
Whenever Allah’s prophets delivered teachings that opposed the desires of Bani Israel, many rejected them. Some prophets were denied, while others were killed. Their rejection was not because they lacked evidence but because of pride.
Allah also exposes their false claim that their hearts were covered. In reality, their disbelief caused Allah’s curse upon them, preventing them from accepting guidance.
Story of Prophet Yahya (AS)
Islamic narrations mention that during the time of Prophet Yahya (AS), a king intended to marry his niece. Prophet Yahya (AS) warned him that such a marriage was unlawful. Instead of accepting the truth, the king became angry and ordered the killing of Prophet Yahya (AS).
This incident reflects how some people rejected Allah’s messengers when they challenged their personal desires.
Abdullah ibn Salam (RA) Accepts Islam
A beautiful example of sincere faith is Abdullah ibn Salam (RA), one of the greatest Jewish scholars.
Before publicly accepting Islam, he requested Prophet Muhammad ﷺ to ask the Jews about him first. They praised him as their greatest scholar. But when Abdullah ibn Salam (RA) declared the Shahadah, the same people immediately insulted him.
This incident proves that stubbornness and hatred can blind people from accepting the truth even when clear evidence is before them.
Lessons from Surah Al-Baqarah 2:87-88 Tafsir

تعارف
سورۃ البقرہ آیات 87-88 کی تفسیر میں اللہ تعالیٰ بنی اسرائیل پر اپنی عظیم نعمتوں کا ذکر فرماتے ہیں۔ اللہ تعالیٰ نے حضرت موسیٰ علیہ السلام کو تورات عطا فرمائی، پھر مسلسل انبیاء بھیجے، اور آخر میں حضرت عیسیٰ علیہ السلام کو واضح معجزات دے کر حضرت جبرائیل علیہ السلام کی مدد سے مضبوط فرمایا۔ اس کے باوجود بنی اسرائیل کی ایک بڑی تعداد نے تکبر اور ضد کی وجہ سے حق کو قبول نہ کیا۔
ترجمہ
اور بے شک ہم نے موسیٰ علیہ السلام کو کتاب عطا کی اور ان کے بعد لگاتار رسول بھیجے، اور ہم نے عیسیٰ ابن مریم علیہ السلام کو روشن نشانیاں عطا کیں اور روح القدس (حضرت جبرائیل علیہ السلام) کے ذریعے ان کی مدد فرمائی۔ پھر جب بھی کوئی رسول تمہارے پاس ایسی بات لے کر آیا جو تمہارے نفس کو پسند نہ تھی تو تم نے تکبر کیا، بعض رسولوں کو جھٹلایا اور بعض کو قتل کر دیا۔
اور انہوں نے کہا کہ ہمارے دل پردوں میں ہیں۔ بلکہ اللہ نے ان کے کفر کی وجہ سے ان پر لعنت فرمائی ہے، اس لیے ان میں سے بہت ہی کم لوگ ایمان لاتے ہیں۔
تفسیر
سورۃ البقرہ آیات 87-88 کی تفسیر میں اللہ تعالیٰ یہ واضح کرتے ہیں کہ بنی اسرائیل کو ہدایت پہنچانے میں کوئی کمی نہیں چھوڑی گئی۔ حضرت موسیٰ علیہ السلام کو تورات دی گئی، پھر ان کے بعد مسلسل انبیاء بھیجے گئے تاکہ وہ لوگوں کو سیدھا راستہ دکھائیں۔
حضرت عیسیٰ علیہ السلام کو واضح معجزات عطا کیے گئے اور حضرت جبرائیل علیہ السلام کے ذریعے ان کی مدد کی گئی۔ قرآن مجید میں حضرت مریم علیہا السلام کا نام تقریباً تیس مرتبہ آیا ہے، اور حضرت عیسیٰ علیہ السلام کو ہمیشہ ابنِ مریم کہا گیا، جو ان کی بغیر باپ کے معجزانہ پیدائش کی دلیل ہے۔
جب بھی انبیاء نے اللہ کا حکم سنایا جو ان کی خواہشات کے خلاف تھا تو انہوں نے تکبر کیا، بعض انبیاء کو جھٹلایا اور بعض کو شہید کر دیا۔
حضرت یحییٰ علیہ السلام کا واقعہ
روایات کے مطابق ایک بادشاہ اپنی بھانجی سے نکاح کرنا چاہتا تھا۔ حضرت یحییٰ علیہ السلام نے اسے اللہ کا حکم سنایا اور اس کام سے منع کیا۔ بادشاہ نے حق قبول کرنے کے بجائے غصے میں آ کر حضرت یحییٰ علیہ السلام کو شہید کروا دیا۔
حضرت عبداللہ بن سلام رضی اللہ عنہ
حضرت عبداللہ بن سلام رضی اللہ عنہ یہودیوں کے بڑے عالم تھے۔ اسلام قبول کرنے سے پہلے انہوں نے رسول اللہ ﷺ سے فرمایا کہ پہلے یہودیوں سے میرے بارے میں پوچھ لیجیے۔
انہوں نے ان کی بہت تعریف کی، لیکن جیسے ہی انہوں نے اسلام قبول کیا، وہی لوگ انہیں برا بھلا کہنے لگے۔ یہ واقعہ ثابت کرتا ہے کہ ضد اور ہٹ دھرمی انسان کو حق قبول کرنے سے روک دیتی ہے۔
اہم اسباق
- اللہ تعالیٰ نے ہدایت کے لیے مسلسل انبیاء بھیجے۔
- تکبر انسان کو حق سے محروم کر دیتا ہے۔
- خواہشات کی پیروی گمراہی کا سبب بنتی ہے۔
- اللہ کے احکام کو عاجزی کے ساتھ قبول کرنا چاہیے۔
- ایمان اللہ تعالیٰ کی عظیم نعمت ہے
