Surah Baqarah 72-73 Tafseer
Introduction
Surah Baqarah verses 72-73 describe a remarkable incident from the history of Bani Israel. Allah revealed the truth behind a hidden murder through a miraculous sign involving a cow. The Surah Baqarah 72-73 story teaches justice, honesty, and Allah’s unlimited power.
Before reading this incident, read our previous explanation of the cow story in Surah Baqarah 67-71 Tafseer, where Allah commanded Bani Israel to sacrifice the cow. This article continues the story in verses 72-73.
(Urdu Translation)
Translation (English)
And remember when you killed a man and began accusing one another, while Allah was to reveal what you were hiding.
Then We said, “Strike the slain man with a part of the cow.” Thus Allah brings the dead to life and shows you His signs so that you may understand.
(Urdu Tafseer)
English Tafseer
The wealthy man among the Children of Israel was murdered by his own cousins because they desired his inheritance. After committing the crime, they secretly placed his body in another tribe and falsely accused them of murder.
Allah commanded Prophet Musa (Moses, peace be upon him) to instruct the people to sacrifice a cow. Although they delayed the command by asking unnecessary questions, they eventually obeyed.
Allah then instructed them to strike the dead man with a part of the sacrificed cow. By Allah’s permission, the murdered man came back to life, identified his killers, and then died again.
This miracle exposed the criminals, cleared the innocent tribe from false accusations, and proved Allah’s absolute power to bring the dead back to life. The murderers also failed to inherit the victim’s wealth because a killer cannot inherit from the person he has killed.
